Consolidating student loans
The student aspiring for direct loans for students must be enrolled in a school that is eligible per government norms. The school through which the student is applying for direct loans should be certified by the government to participate in the direct loans program offered by the Federal Student Aid.
A school would be certified if they satisfy the School Eligibility Channel laws. The Financial Aid Director of the certified school should request further permission to participate in the direct loans program on behalf of the school to further proceed with students enrolling for loans through the school.
The direct loans would be credited to the Grant Administration and Payment System (GAPS) account of the School once the loan is sanctioned.
Before that student does apply for new direct loans, the applicant is required to submit the details of all the other loans that the student holds. The student can also consolidate all the direct loans availed from different schools to manage the repayment efficiently.
If you have a friend who has already availed direct loan they can help you better deal with your loan application process. Title IV eligibility and Certification is very important for a school to participate in the program. Longer repayment term and minimum monthly repayment makes the direct loans desirable.
